I’m sure you’re wondering to yourself, “Didn’t this guy already have a blog?” And that answer would be yes! I’m sure you’re also thinking, “Do people still blog? That’s so 2005. Also, why do I care? This guy hasn’t written anything for like 8 years.” Well, all of those thoughts are warranted and partially correct (even if they were a little hurtful).

Do people still write blogs? I’m sure they do. At least I think so. Not everyone has moved over to the overpopulated landscape that is podcasting (or any other relevant social media platform, for that matter). In fact, some may have moved back to blogging after doing a podcast for 7 years, including yours truly (this fact – and I do use that word loosely – may not be as common, but it applies to me). Expand the next bit below to learn more about my now defunct podcast.

SIX PACK DOUBLE FEATURE PODCAST

From 2017 to 2023 my good friend Travis and I hosted a podcast where we would talk about a pair of movies and then discuss them over a few beers (sometimes more). Soon after we started, we expanded the content also include what we called “Pick 6” lists, which were basically a “top 5 list, plus one more.” I loved doing it, but eventually it was time to move on, so we ended it on our terms. Unfortunately, over the course of the last few months I ended up unintentionally scrubbing almost everything about the show from the internet, and now there’s hardly any evidence that it ever existed (other than all of the episodes I have saved on my trusty thumb drive, that is). So, please enjoy a handful of cultivated pictures I pulled from various devices that I’ve shared below. I swear to you, the show was real.

But in all honesty, after the podcast ended, I wanted a better centralized location for all of my thoughts, ramblings, and other observations. A place where I could regularly deposit my musings and minutiae for all the world to see (that one’s for you, Brandon), even if it’s mostly just for my family and a handful of friends who might actually be interested in reading the words that first formed in head and then, after multiple rewrites, eventually landed here.

I realized that just stopping cold turkey after having a semi-regular routine of writing down my thoughts after watching a movie, and then sharing those thoughts with my friend and co-host, I still craved some sort of creative outlet. The end result is a revamping of my existing blog that’s been converted to this new site all while keeping the name. (In all honesty, who really wants to be known as The Inconsistent Writer? Absolutely no one, which was why it was so easy to reserve the site name.)

Now that I’ve answered most – if not all – of your questions, what should you expect to see here in the coming days, weeks, or even months? Hell, I don’t know quite yet. Putting this out here for all the world to see that I’m trying to be an inconsistently consistent writer (again) is a bit overwhelming and a tad bit scary. But I’ve had some thoughts and more than a few ideas that have been running laps inside my head for the past several years and I feel that if I don’t eventually let them out, I just might go crazy. Here are just a few of those ideas:

  • COMPLETE THE ReBONDing SERIES: After finishing my ReBONDing series in 2017, the Daniel Craig era had yet to conclude. The ReBONDing series was originally created to go back and re-evaluate the entire James Bond franchise from Connery to Brosnan. At the time I wrote all of those entries, the Daniel Craig era seemed too fresh, too new (as well as incomplete). Well, that’s not the case now. There are five more films that now need to be added so I can finally finish this dad-blasted series. (That is, until Eon Productions finds their new James Bond, then all bets are off.)
    • And speaking of Bond, I had also written an additional post that has been sitting in my drafts folder this entire time. It’s mostly just a lists of, well… more lists, where I rank almost everything Bond-related that most Bond geeks appreciate about the franchise. If that’s not you, I apologize in advance.
  • CONTINUE THE ESSENTIAL FIVE SERIES: I also started an entirely new series called The Essential Five, wrote an introduction post, then wrote about one damn director after almost immediately abandoning the series entirely because apparently I hate doing research and I’m afraid of commitment. Maybe I could start that back up and actually finish a truly defined collection of my favorite directors before I turn 50 years old? Maybe.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Yeah, that’s nice, but what about something new rather than continuations of projects you may or may not end up finishing?” Funny you should say that. Here are some of those ideas:

  • NEW JONESing SERIES: Back before I even started the podcast, my friend (and eventual co-host of said podcast) Travis proposed the following idea: do a new series of entries involving Indiana Jones in the same vein as my ReBONDing series called JONESing. He was enjoying the nostalgic look back on the movies we grew up watching as kids. However, just thinking about having to re-watch Crystal Skull is simultaneously giving me a cold sweat, break out in hives, and making me just a little bit nauseous. That could be fun, right? *shrugs*
  • DOUBLE FEATURES: Once the podcast had ended, I seriously considered re-writing my thoughts on each of the double features we recorded, maybe with some new added insight. This one definitely seems like it could be fun as I dig through my old notes, maybe even pull a clip or two from the show and share it. What about that one? Hmm?
  • PICK 6 LISTS: Last one, I swear – We created a lot of lists on that show. In fact, more than half of the episodes were basically dedicated to us just creating lists. You know the one, right? Where I usually selected “well thought out movies” and Travis often picked “s–t garbage”? (Don’t blame me, he’s the one who coined that phrase.) I could also dig into my archive of notes and start rewriting those and posting them as well. You have to like that one, right? No? Well that’s too bad, because I do.

So where does that leave us? If you’ve made it this far, first off – a congratulations are in order! Well done! It also means that I have at least one solid idea, four recycled ones, as well as a few more that I haven’t even shared here that are still percolating up in the ol’ noggin. And who knows, they might turn into that next great something that I may never end up finishing, but that’s the chance you take when you decided to click on this link and read a post written by a grown ass man child on the cusp of turning 50 years old who likes to write about movies.

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited; even a little bit nervous. But have no fear, we’re in this together now. Come with me, if you dare. I’ll even hold your hand, if you want. (But no funny stuff, ladies, because I’m already taken.) Now it’s just you and me, dear reader. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Wait, did I warn you? Oh well, it’s too late now!

Until Next Time.
